Price

  • $200 per person for an evening hunt and night thermal hunt.
  • Family members or friends that are 12 years old or older, can come on the hunt to watch for a fee of $20 per person.

  • This is a great guided hunting option, especially those wanting to hunt with children. There are abundant shot opportunities on Lonesome Whale Ranch for: rabbits, armadillos, raccoons, coyotes, bobcats and possums. 

What to Expect

  • The guided hunts start at sundown, and includes cruising around Lonesome Whale Ranch with thermal scopes and harvesting any number of invasive varmints we have around the property.

License Needed

  • Texas Hunting License required for all hunts.

Experience Required

  • No experience is required.
  • We highly encourage family and youth hunts, but we do charge an additional fee for children younger than 12 years old who want to learn to hunt.

What to Bring

  • Guns: A .22lr rifle is recommended, we are happy to provide one if needed.
  • Attire: Dress appropriately for the season, snake boots are recommended.
  • Food/Beverage: We encourage hunters to bring plenty of water and snacks in case they get hungry while hunting.

Do you offer accommodation?

We do not offer accommodation - but hope to in the future! We recommend searching Airbnb for accommodations in Lometa and around Lometa, TX. The closest hotel is in Lampasas, about 20 minutes away, and there are also several Airbnbs in Lampasas.

How do I find you and where do I park?

You can find our general location in Google Maps by searching Lonesome Whale Ranch. We will send exact entry and parking details during the booking process.

Can we bring alcohol?

NO ALCOHOL is allowed on the ranch. If we find, see, or suspect alcohol use, you will be asked to leave. If you are hunting under the influence, we will call the game warden as we ask you to leave.  There is zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol use and handling firearms.

Do we need to bring food and drinks?

We encourage hunters to bring plenty of water and snacks in case they get hungry while hunting. This will not be provided. NO ALCOHOL is allowed on the ranch. If we find, see, or suspect alcohol use, you will be asked to leave. If you are hunting under the influence, we will call the game warden as we ask you to leave.  There is zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol use and handling firearms.


There is an H-E-B located in Lampasas, about 20 minutes away, and likely on your way to the ranch.  There is also a gas station in Lometa and a Dollar General; both of these are 5-10 minutes away.

Cancellations made at least 4 days prior to the booked date can be refunded. Cancellations made at least 48 hours prior to the booked hunt can be rescheduled for a fee of $50. Cancellations made within 48 hours of your booked hunt cannot be refunded.

What if I have ZERO hunting experience?

For most hunts, no experience is required. The level of guidance and pricing is determined by your experience level. We also highly encourage booking hunting lessons before a full hunt but it is not required.

Changes requested at least 48 hours prior to the booked hunt can be rescheduled for a fee of $50.

How do you ensure safety while hunting?

No prior experience or skills are necessary, but we do require all hunters demonstrate basic gun safety to our guide prior to hunting.

We allow hunting and retriever dogs for duck hunts only.

This depends on the specific hunt you are booking. For some hunts, we offer guns and equipment at no extra charge.
